Rada Hussein

Rada has 30 years of professional and academic experience in the Biomedical and Health Informatics (BMHI) domain. After getting her Ph.D. degree in Medical Informatics from Heidelberg University, she established a BMHI center of excellence in Egypt. She was a Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI, and a member of the panel of experts in several EU-funded projects. Two of these projects are recognized by the EU and the World Health Organization (WHO). She serves as an associate editor and a reviewer in several international journals. She is also a member of the scientific program committee at American and European Medical Informatics conferences.
Currently, she is a PI at LBI-DHP and her research focuses on global health informatics and strategic and innovation management for developing roadmaps in digital health. In May 2020, her project entitled “DH-Convener” was selected as the winner project of the Nexus Digital Health Innovation Challenge in the use case of organizing data for future health. The DH-Convener is also nominated for the X-eHealth Interoperability Award 2022.
She was selected to include her personal narrative contribution in the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA) History Book as one of the pioneers in health informatics (2021). She is also a founding member of the IMIA’s International Academy of Health Sciences Informatics (IAHSI) since 2017.
Selected projects that Rada Hussein is currently working on closely at the LBI-DHP include: Digital Health (DH) Convener, H2O, Data Protection, Digital Health Roadmap and Open Innovation in Science, CODIS (GDPR activity), and MORE (interoperability layer).
