Kalpana Sugathadasa

Bio

Kalpana Sugathadasa is a researcher in digital health, health informatics, and clinical medicine. At the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital Health and Prevention (LBI-DHP), he investigates the suitability and necessary adaptations of aktivplan for Sri Lanka’s cardiac rehabilitation pathway, expanding the institute’s scope to an international setting.

With eight years of clinical experience spanning emergency care, paediatrics, neonatology, and obstetrics & gynaecology, Kalpana integrates medical expertise with informatics to drive healthcare innovation. He holds an MD in Health Informatics (2023) and an MSc in Biomedical Informatics (2018) from the Postgraduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo. His research includes cognitive science applications in medical training, evidenced by his MD work on cognitive load in health IT training and his MSc research on working memory and writing skills of the postgraduate trainees in Medicine.

Kalpana has led national-scale digital health projects in Sri Lanka, including the implementation of hospital information systems in major teaching hospitals. His expertise bridges clinical practice, health informatics, and digital health innovation, positioning him at the intersection of technology and patient-centred care.
