Bio
David Haag completed his PhD in Health Psychology at the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital Health and Prevention under the academic supervision of Prof. Jens Blechert (University of Salzburg). Using intensive longitudinal methods (e.g., Ecological Momentary Assessment, Micro-randomized Trials), he investigated situational and motivational determinants of physical activity. Building on this work, he developed a micro-timescale model of health behavior that accounts for temporal and contextual within-person dynamics and provides the basis for more precise Just-in-Time Adaptive Interventions (JITAIs).
A particular focus of Dr. Haag’s research is the application of generative AI for precision prevention and treatment in behavioral medicine. He published the first study comparing AI-generated JITAIs with interventions authored by healthcare professionals, demonstrating higher user acceptance for the AI-based suggestions (https://doi.org/10.1145/3706598.3713307). Currently, he is a visiting fellow at the University of Jyväskylä (Finland), where he investigates the integration of Behavior Change Techniques into AI-generated interventions.
