Job Vacancy: Full Stack Developer / Research Software Engineer (f/m/x)

The Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital Health and Prevention researches novel technology-assisted interventions for supporting sustainable health behavior change. To support the implementation of new health technologies, we are offering a position as a technical employee in software development.

In close collaboration with our partners at the Paris Lodron University Salzburg (PLUS; Faculty of Digital and Analytical Sciences and Centre for Human-Computer Interaction), the University of Applied Sciences (FH Salzburg), Salzburg Research, the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT), the Paracelsus Medical University (PMU) and the University Hospital of Salzburg (SALK), the LBI-DHP follows an impact-oriented research agenda. That aim is pursued by bringing together interdisciplinary expertise and approaches both within the institute, as well as through the wider partner network and stakeholder groups. Novel digital health systems and interventions are developed and evaluated at levels ranging from exploratory prototypes to scalable publicly available platforms and clinical studies (see e.g. https://dhp.lbg.ac.at/more/ and https://dhp.lbg.ac.at/aktivplan/).

Tasks

  • Extension and development of digital health applications/interventions
  • Extension and development of a user-friendly mHealth platform (web & mobile + backend)
  • Maintenance of software services and service infrastructure
  • Supporting the integration of (and gaining working experience with) machine learning and artificial intelligence systems into digital health interventions (AI/ML engineering)

Qualifications

  • Higher education degree in computer science, software development, multimedia technologies, and comparable degree programs, or corresponding professional experience
  • Expertise in modern web technologies for frontend and backend development (e.g. JavaScript, React, Python, Java, .NET/MAUI, etc. as well as HTML and CSS scripting)
  • Expertise or motivation to acquire expertise in container technology (Docker, OpenShift, Kubernetes), databases (MySQL, Postgres, InfluxDB, Firebase, RethinkDB, MongoDB), event-driven / streaming architectures and microservices (Kafka/Confluent), continuous integration, and build tools (e.g. gradle), authentication / authorization standards (KeyCloak)
  • Follow modern and high-quality development standards (git; automated tests, etc.)
  • Beneficial: experience in native mobile development (Android and/or iOS)
  • Beneficial: experience in responsible development using AI coding-support
  • Great problem-solving skills
  • Communication and team-working skills
  • Excitement about challenging iterative and user-centered research software development, assuming a broad range of responsibilities
  • Good English language skills; German skills welcome but not required

Details

  • Work hours: 40 hours per week (part-time work and home office can be discussed)
  • Location: Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Digital Health and Prevention at the University Hospital of Salzburg (SALK), Lindhofstrasse 22, 5020 Salzburg, Austria
  • Earliest start: As soon as possible
  • Duration: 12 months up to 20 months
  • Salary: Starting from € 44,208.- per year before tax (€ 3,158.- per month * 12 + 2 months)
